Marcus' Story

Marcus - The Tripod

Poor 5-week-old Marcus came over from Mexico with his baby siblings, who unfortunately had all been suckling on his genitals (as nursing kittens can sometimes do with no mom around). He also had a little wound on his leg, so he was started on antibiotics. Xrays showed the leg was fine, and we were much more concerned about his ability to urinate properly right then.

After several days his scrotum was swollen from the genital inflammation, so we brought him into an ER hospital where a quick procedure on his scrotum saved him! He stayed overnight getting carried around and loved on by the veterinary staff – he was the cutest 6 week old munchkin.

The next day, one of his doctors noticed that his leg seemed a little more swollen, so repeat xrays were taken. We were shocked. The infection had eaten away at the leg bone. So off the leg came – Surgery #2

He did well with the amputation, and weeks later he was neutered (surgery #3), and all seemed like it was going well . . . until he started having issues urinating. Ugh.

Back into the hospital, and we realized he was urinary blocked. His urethra was scabbed over (due to the scrotum trauma as a baby) and would likely need extensive surgery on his genitals. Luckily the same surgeon who had amputated his leg was available, and Marcus had an extensive genital reconstruction!

4 surgeries later, Marcus was adopted by one of the doctors at the hospital who had seen him coming and going and fell in love, and he’s been perfect ever since.
